Rest Relax Recharge

La petite Forge is a boutique Gite in a small village in the Bourgogne, Nièvre in the middle of France's countryside. This cozy holiday cottage is the old small forge of Pazy where the horses used to get shod. The house has been lovingly restored, ready to welcome you.

It's the perfect place for a long weekend or a short week, close to the Nivernais canal and the towns of Corbigny, Clamecy and Vézelay. Here you can relax and unwind, surrounded by peace and quiet, birdsong, forests, lakes, spectacular vistas, unhurried meals and excellent Burgundy wines and beers.

The cottage offers an open space kitchen, living- and dining room on the ground floor with comfortable seating, a generous dining table that works for a meal or an afternoon with your laptop, a well equipped kitchen and a fabulous wood burning stove.

Upstairs is a plush double bed with plenty of pillows and quality linen, a spacious bathroom. There is a small terrace on the south- and on the north side of the house.

The Vezelay pilgrim route of St. James' runs through Pazy so there is plenty to explore on foot. The Nivernais Canal offers great boating and biking opportunities (think long, flat stretches with gorgeous views, pretty villages and undiscovered eateries) and the warmer months offer a variety of brocantes, farmer's markets and car boot sales. All with a true French vibe.

Why stay at La petite Forge

Authentic French

This part of France is still relatively undiscovered and therefore authentic with a real French countryside vibe.

Wander through a market, find a bakery that's been there for generations or discover a viewpoint nobody has photographed yet.

In the many hamlets dotted around the area it often feels as if time stood still.

Peace and quiet

Life in the city is often full of noise and distractions. At La petite Forge you will find peace and quiet, time to rest and recharge. A slower way of life.

Imagine sipping a morning coffee on the terrace in the sun, reading a book in the hammock or simply listening to the birds and the sounds of nature.

Insider tips

My name is Siets and you will be staying with me. My home is next to La petite Forge. I speak English, French, Dutch and Spanish and I am happy to share insider tips on where to eat, and drink, what to visit and discover.

I am around if you need me or if you just want to have a chat but I will keep to myself if you are happy to be left alone.

Wild neighbours

Countryside living has its own soundtrack! A cacophony of birds in the morning to welcome a new day, cows mooing in the distance and the crowing of the neighbour's cockerel.

At night you hear the owls who live in and around the church of Pazy and the song of the nightingales makes a soothing lullaby.

About me

Several years ago I swapped city life for a slower rhythm in the countryside and I haven't looked back. I work in tech but my heart is firmly outdoors: hands in the dirt, surrounded by nature and animals. I'm a Reiki master, and I have a particular passion for horses and a soft spot for sighthounds. I believe in hospitality the old fashioned way, baking, cooking and genuinely welcoming the people who cross my path.

On my daily walks I am thankful to live somewhere this beautiful. Every season has its own magic.

In the warmer months, you can find me visiting the occasional brocante or flea market, enjoying the cooler environment in the forests or taking in the views along the Nivernais canal on foot or by bike.

I love finding off the beaten track gems, whether it's a restaurant, a lesser-known spot with a fantastic view, a great place to go wine tasting or a sweet little market.

I look forward to welcoming you, in English, Dutch, Spanish or French.

Booking

When you book directly with me, you're keeping the connection personal by supporting a small business and an independent host, which is exactly what makes a trip memorable. You'll get the best available rate, and I'll make sure you arrive knowing exactly where to go, what to eat, and what not to miss.

Booking platforms are convenient, but they're impersonal and they take a cut that never reaches the person who made your stay special.

I invite you to travel the old fashioned way: exploring, discovering and making connections. Send me a message, I would love to hear what brings you to this corner of France!
